I am a patient with a hip replacement, which needs a revision. It dislocated in October, and my surgeon got it back into place. The surgeon, who did the hip replacement in 2008 did a poor job, and why a revision is necessary. During blood work, my surgeon noticed my 2 blood markers for inflammation were elevated. since he was concerned about a hip infection, I had a hip aspiration, which came back positive for propionibacterium. I am on a 6-week IV course of ertapenem 1g in sodium chloride 0.9% 50ML IVPB. I was also on Levonox injections daily for a short while but am now off the Levonix. I started the INVanz on November 21. Within days of being on these 2 meds I developed diarrhea so bad that I could not control my bowels. Now that I am off Levonox, the diarrhea is gone. Today, after my trip to the hospital for my INVanz IV, and we were back home, I noticed some dried blood in my underwear. My husband checked my genital area and saw a great deal of external yeast, which he cleaned. I'm most concerned about the blood, which appeared to be coming vaginally (spotty). I am taking probiotics every day. I see my surgeon in 2 days for follow up, and I see my doctor of infectious disease on Dec. 22. I am 65 years old. It's the blood that concerns me. What do you think?
