I Am A Type One Diabetic For 55 Years. I

I am a type one diabetic for 55 years. I woke up the other day and my left foot and ankle are very painful and I cannot move the foot. I do not recall doing anything to it. My foot and leg are swollen up to the knee. They usually swell anyway, but this is more then usual. Any ideas what could cause this?
