I Am An African American Feel. I Frequently Color My

I am an African American feel. I frequently color my hair and the scalp has become damaged around the edges and in the crown. The edges are so damaged that when I initially wake, the scalp appears slightly ashy looking, white dry spots. The crown of my scalp thins each week. After using a protein conditioner and reducing harsh/frequent shampooing (shampooing every 2-3 days), shedding has stopped a lot. However, I am am concerned about my hair edges a lot. I don't see hair in some of the follicles around the edges. FYI, I do have a history of eczema and I also live in a very cold climate.
