I Am And Active 71 Year Old With Rectocele Cystocele

I am and active 71 year old with rectocele cystocele vagina sort of detaching and uterine starting to prolapse.
I am scheduled for surgery in about 7 weeks for total hysterectomy and repair of everything. I had a choice to have a pessary but chose surgery. Think it is a wise choice? What are the risks.
