I Am Curious About Some Sinus Drainage, Sore Throat, Slight

I am curious about some sinus drainage, sore throat, slight fever and ear ache. Went to doctor who said the sore throat was probably from sinus drainage and that it looked like a virus behind/in the ear. Was given oral antibiotics which I finished yesterday. Eardrum ruptured after first dosage of medication. Still does not feel right. Will wait to see if it heals within 3 months as some take that long as I have researched. I just don't get it, the doctor reminded me that virus are not treated with medication. What the heck is a virus behind the ear (was not told I had an ear infection) and wasn't sure I was going to get any medication because a virus.
