I Am Developing Ridges On My Fingernails, Sometimes With Dark

I am developing ridges on my fingernails, sometimes with dark lines running vertically from the end of the nail toward the nail bed. Is this from a lack or insufficient amounts of some nutrient or is there nothing I can do? Mother has ridges as well.
