I Am Dilated To A 1 And I'm 38 Weeks.

I am dilated to a 1 and I'm 38 weeks. What methods actually work for inducing labor? I have been having contractions off and on and some are extremely painful and I went to the ER today to be safe and they said I wasn't in labor. I can't seem to get comfortable in any way. The doctor did say everything with the baby is great and my body is just responding how it is supposed to. I am a first time mom and I don't know what labor is going to be like and I know it is different for everyone. I'm just basically trying to help the process along my little guy feels like he is running out of room and trying to break ribs to get the room he needs. please help me. :(
