I Am Experiencing A Slight Swelling With Mild Discoloration On

I am experiencing a slight swelling with mild discoloration on the back of my right hand. When I bend the hand I experience pain. Otherwise there is a persistent but not severe ache. What's going on? I've made an appointment with my physician for Friday.
