I Am Having A Really Sharp Pain On My Left

I am having a really sharp pain on my left side. It just started today out of nowhere. It is located almost right at waist level and totally on the side. Could it possibly me a menstrual cramp? It feels almost like I was running really hard and have a cramp, but in a different position then if I was running. I am 48 years old too if that makes any difference.
