I Am Having Periods And Is This Normal?

I have been on the mini pill for 9mths all my periods stopped. Last week I had a copper coil fitted, Dr told me to continue taking pill for next 6wks until I go back for check. Over the weekend I have started a period, is this normal even though I am still on the pill and havn't been having periods?
