I Am On My First Month Of The Pill. I

I am on my first month of the pill. I started my period a week and 2 days early (while on active pills) and have continued to bleed. It started very light spotting and progressed into light/ medium light bleeding. I am on my 3rd day of the sugar pills and am still having some bleeding, though it has slowed down a little. Am I still protected from pregnancy? I have not missed any pills and have taken them all at the same time everyday. Is there any way that the early bleeding effected the pill making it not work?
