I Am On My Period And Instead Of Blood My

I am on my period and instead of blood my tampon is full of a clear liquid and it keeps going through my pants there is a tad bit of blood but not much and last week I had a brown discharge all week .. I am on birth control and sometimes I have unprotected sex I don't think I'm pregnant what could this be?
