I am taking 325 mg of iron and 250 mg of vitamin c for severe anemia. I have adenocarcinoma stage IV, NCF.
diagosed 6 years ago. Been in remission for about 3 years. the last 3 months i had a respiratory infection and took two Z Packs. July 28 I had an angioplasty with 2 stents placed . Was 98 % blocked in one and about 90% blocked in 2nd artery. Felt great after procedure. Began LIpitor, Effient and Valcepa. along with my regular meds of Valsartan and nexium . (also started 1 baby aspirin per day) About one week later I began feeling badly and suspected the new meds. Had my oncologist appt Monday and
discovered my iron count is 19, saturation is 4%, ferritin is 5. Am awaiting stool test kit as first test to proceed with determining problem. Am not having good responses--about 5pm I started feeling very dizzy and a little difficulty walking a bit. It is lessening a bit but am still little dizzy. Could this be side effects of iron--? ( Dr. and I suspect a gastric tract bleeding due to tumor or stomach ulcers . Having read a lot on these issues , I am afraid I've developed Leukemia due to 8 months of chemo and so many cat scans, and numerous other xrays over last 6 years. Initial diagnosis was--is Adenocarcinoma of small intestines Had about 10 inches of sm. int. removed in intenstinal resection --two years later had tumor at navel area removed along with greater and lesser omentum, peritonium (mispell), abdominal muscles. Have mesh over all abdominal area. Sorry for all this info , but felt like you neede to know all before telling me if I should see oncologist tomorrow or if this is just typical for such large iron doses twice a day. Today is end of 4th day of iron meds.
