I Am Trying To Figure Out Why My Second Toe

I am trying to figure out why my second toe has all of a sudden turn very red and feels like it is broken. I have had several broken bones and this does not feel like a true break. It feels warm and infected. I am stumped because it is only my second toe. there is also a white line going across my toe through the red inflammation at my knuckle.
It would be grateful for any knowledgeable information. thank you. Chris.
