I Am Wondering About Squamous Cell Carcinoma. My Brother-in-law Has

I am wondering about Squamous Cell Carcinoma. My brother-in-law has just received this diagnosis. He has a lump in his throat and a place on the back of his tongue. After reading a small bit of this info on WebMD, I am confused. What he has doesn't look like there is anything on his skin, but inside, in his throat.
