I Am Worried, My Husband Has Been Feeling Very Ill

I am worried, my husband has been feeling very ill for months. Abdominal pain, bloating, weekness, fatigue, hot & cold, headaches, says he feels hungover(does not drink at all). He Drs with the VA. It has been difficult to get timely care. Last week I insisted(firmly) that he be seen. The did blood tests several days before. The Dr said it had been 1 year since he had tests. This is not true. Regardless, she said his A1c was over 11. They tested his glucose & the meter could not read it. It just said HI. they gave him a meter & strips, Insulin-Lantus, & syringes. Advised him to take 10 mg of lantis at bedtime & check his sugar AM only. Metformin ER to be taken 1x daily. They would see him in a week. The first morning his blood sugar was 258. Since then , it's been 5 days & it is too high for the meter to read, never below 500. He checks several times a day. Today we found out he will not be seen for 5 more days. He is not getting better. He says he feels like he's on the outside looking in. No appetite, very very thirsty. I feel like I'm watching him die. Isn't this dangerous? Shouldn't he be in the er? Help
