I Begin To Cough On Saturday. It's Just A Dry

I begin to cough on Saturday. It's just a dry hacking cough. I noticed I had blood tinged vaginal fluid. Now I'm bleeding heavily. This would be the second time this month that I would have a period. I am perimenopaus so my periods are irregular. The blood is bright red with no clots. i'm bleeding through a super plus tampon in about two or three hours. It just falls out when I go to the toilet. Should I be concerned? Or, can this just be an irregular period? I'm in no pain at all.
