I currently have my 7th sinus infection within a year timeframe. I am 13 years old. I just finished my 10 days worth of antibiotics today (Amoxicillin Clavulanate) and they have done nothing to help with my infection. I have been told I have a small nasal polyp on the left side and we tried to treat it with steroid sprays but it didn't respond. Previous sinus infections I have had have taken three different antibiotics to treat. I have always had lots of problems with my ears, nose and throat. When I was an infant I had chronic ear infections, then when I was eight or nine, I had 5 bouts of tonsillitis in a year but they told me it wasn't enough to have my tonsils removed. Now I'm having lots and lots of sinus problems. My mom is going to try and see if we can get a referral to an ENT but she says it may take between 6 and 9 months to get an appointment. I would honestly be fine with getting surgery if it meant these sinus infections would stop. I just need some answers or possibilities. I am also a hypochondriac and I have severe anxiety and depression. I have been hospitalized for my depression and anxiety. I am currently on 0.5 mg of Clonazepam, 112.5 mg Effexor and Imovane to help me sleep. Amoxicillin no longer works to treat my sinus infections and so it seems my body has built up a resistance to that medication but my pediatrician said that the antibiotic I just finished was meant for resistant infections, and it did nothing. I cannot take Zithromax because it makes me extremely nauseous and Biaxin rarely works. Don't know what to do any more. My mom and pediatrician don't want me getting surgery but I want it so bad. They don't understand how much this affects me. I use nasal sprays and rinses and I take Aerius every morning for allergies even though we don't even know what I'm allergic to. When I got allergy tested as a kid, it came back negative but now they think I actually do have allergies. I also suffer from migraines and have tried every different migraine medication out there so I'm currently getting treated with acupuncture and the Ontario Migraine Clinic.
