I Cut A Chunk Of Skin Off My Thumb When

I cut a chunk of skin off my thumb when cutting potatoes on a mandolin slicer. It would not stop bleeding on its own, so I went to the emergency room. The doctor cauterized the entire wound to stop the bleeding and wrapped it up. How long do I need to keep it wrapped? I change the dressing every day. It happened 3 days ago.
