I Cut My Finger The Other Night And Went To

I cut my finger the other night and went to get stitches. I was told I hit a nerve due to the numbness in my finger. I saw a specialist and they said if it's not better in a week that I may have to have surgery. In the meantime, am I suppose to be in this much pain? My finger has terrible shooting/ tingly pains but my finger tip is numb.
