I Cut The Very Tip End Of My Thumb Off

I cut the very tip end of my thumb off while chopping vegetables. I threw the vegetables down the disposal and the tip end must have been with them.. there was a lot of blood, it bleed through 2 bandages of gauze but my husband put antibiotic salve on it and bandaged it a third time and after a few minuets it stopped bleeding. He said there was no reason to go to urgent care because there was nothing that could be sewn back together the tip end was gone.. Should I have gone to the ER or urgent care??? Did he handle this right??
