I Get A Muscle Spasm (I Guess That's What It

I get a Muscle spasm (I guess that's what it is) that is like a spiral. It starts in my left leg and spirals up my back and to my neck and left arm. What could be causing this? It has woke me up at night when it starts and is excruciating and will last for about 1 week before it finally goes away.
