I Get A Sharp Pain In The Outside Left Leg

I get a sharp pain in the outside left leg at bottom of hip, upper thigh area. It's like a dull pain most of the time, but sometimes when I'm walking or especially on uneven surfaces I get a very sharp pain that causes it to almost feel bum for a moment and I can't walk. If I stand still for a moment it will stop but this is happening at least 4 to 5 times a day. I'm still able to run in place and do jumping jacks etc. I've read it may be a buristis but I was in a car accident about 4 years a go in which I received a major bone bruise on that same leg.
