I Had A Childhood History Of Asthma And Was A

I had a childhood history of asthma and was a smoker for ~15 years (quite 2 years ago). Recently, after ~2 weeks of a severe cough and recurrent nightly asthma, I had a bad case of pneumonia that resulted in hospitalization on Dec. 16. They took chest X-rays (the first time) and a CT scan (the second time) and ruled out blood clots and cancer. They prescribed an Albuterol inhaler, 3 days of Azithromyicin, Teselon pearls, and cough syrup with Codeine. Unfortunately, they did not prescribe Prednisone on that visit and I returned to the ER two days later, at which point they prescribed 3 days of Prednisone. The Prednisone helped me sleep but when the course was over many of my symptoms returned. I saw a primary care physician ~10 days later and was prescribed Albuterol for a nebulizer and 5 days of Prednisone. Again, when the Prednisone course was finished I began having trouble sleeping through the night, waking with severe asthma, cough, and a lot of yellow and foamy white mucus. Since then, I have been able to control my symptoms during the days for the most part but there have been several nights when I wake after 2-3 hours with the most severe asthma I have ever had, nearly bringing me back to the ER and bringing fears that I might die, that eventually (1-10 minutes) responds to the nebulized Albuterol, during which time I cough up copious amounts of yellow sputum. During this entire ordeal, I have presented no other symptoms whatsoever- no headaches, nausea, fever, chills, aches, diarrhea, difficulty eating/lose of appetite, swollen feet/extremities, nothing but the cough, mucus, and difficulty breathing.
