I Had A Colonoscopy A Month Ago And Was Diagnosed

I had a colonoscopy a month ago and was diagnosed with a 3cc flat mushroom shaped polyp. I was told it could be removed through colonoscopy. Yesterday the Dr. made a second attempt , but did not remove it. I have been referred to a colo-rectal surgeon. The biopsy came back benign, but the nature of the polyp is for it to become malignant. Will I need a colon resection?
