I Had A Pap Done At My Annual Obgyn Appt.

I had a pap done at my annual obgyn appt. it came back abnormal and the doctor did a colposcopy. The results from the lab came back negative; however, they did not tell me negative for what. They also want me back for another biopsy in 3 months. If nothing is wrong; why do I need to go back so quickly instead of waiting for next years pap. Does this mean I have something pre-cancerous that may become cancer eventually?
