Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had a surgical abortion today. I was 15 weeks 3 days. After waiting 2 hours for the medication they gave me to open up my cervix, I was finally brought back to the room. My legs were strapped to the stirrups on the exam table and the anesthesia was injected. Before I even lost consciousness, the doctor shoved some type of instrument in my rectum. It hurt so badly that I literally screamed out in pain. It is the last thing I remember. Afterwards I asked why I was in so much pain in that area and they told me it was normal. Now that it's been a few hours and the medication is wearing off, I am still in pain (in the rectum) and am starting to become afraid and concerned.. my question now is; what was the purpose of inserting something into my rectum, and is that even a standard procedure during abortions?? Please help.
