I Had A Ultrasound Of My Cervix Six Weeks Ago

I had a ultrasound of my cervix six weeks ago the doctor said I had a polip on my cervix. They redid the ultrasound six weeks later and the polip has grown not a lot but it has grown. I have had some irregular periods but nothing crazy. My doc now has me scheduled for surgery at the hospital. Everything I read states a polip is simply removed in the office, no big deal. Why would my doctor want to put me under anesthesia for something so simple?
