I Had An IV In My Wrist For A Colonoscopy

I had an IV in my wrist for a colonoscopy procedure (10/27/14). Everything looked good for about a week, but this past Monday evening I had an episode of swelling on top of my hand (happened very quickly), followed by bruising which has remained about the same until today. Today it appeared to be getting better, maybe even fading just a bit, but now I have some dark purple brusing that is showing and the purple spots are actually a little painful. Should I be worried about this? I have been applying warm compresses on and off since Monday evening.
