I Had An Iv Put In The Top Of My

I had an Iv put in the top of my hand last Saturday and as they were trying to put the medicine in through it it hurt badly. Now a week later I of course have a bruise on the top of my hand which I expected but I also have a protruding and very painful vein right over my wrist bone. If I hit it or touch it in anyway it's very painful. What is this and was it caused by the Iv being put in that hand and what can I do to heal it?
