I had an episode of difficulty breathing, irregular heartbeat, whole body shaking, and sweaty palms. I have had a heart attack over a year ago, and had three stents placed in two arteries. Since that time, I quit smoking. I called the ambulance and the EMT said my blood pressure 200/100, but that the EKG showed that my heart was fine. It was some kind of panic attack. For the past 10 years, I have had severe nerve damage, caused by diabetes. Since I have lost over 100 lbs., I have been able to control my diabetes through diet and I have not had to take insulin for over five years. EMT's checked my glucose and it was normal at 119. I have never been susceptible to panic attacks until the nerve damage began. I also have early, chronic microangiopathy and memory loss. 49 year-old male, history of head trauma. I don't react well to anxiety medications, having severe side effects. And, unfortunately, my doctor is on vacation for six weeks. I'm scared and I don't mind admitting it. The EMT's said that they didn't think I needed to go to hospital. The attack, or whatever it was, would hit, recede, then hit again, repeatedly. Is this a common effect or effects of panic attacks? I was instructed to take the Diazepam that I was prescribed, and did so. These attacks are happening more frequently.
