I Had An Esophageal Endoscopy Six Months Ago To R/o

I had an esophageal endoscopy six months ago to r/o Barrett's from chronic GERD/heartburn. 2 inflamed areas were excised and biopsied. Results were limited to inflammation. I take Zantac 75 mg. BID. Breakthrough heartburn usually requires I take 1 Tums 1000 mg between am and pm doses as well as 2-3 in bed at night. Eliminating food 3-4 hours before bedtime, eating small meals, avoiding common GERD trigger foods, etc doesn't reduce heartburn nor, for the most part, reflux while in bed. I feel the food in my esophagus and often regurgitate/spit up - not vomit - small amounts of partially digested food with thin mucus.

And, just in just the last few months, when I swallow food I can feel it against the wall of my esophagus as it travels to my stomach, although there is no accompanying pain.

I want to know if any pathology that may have developed in the six months since the endoscopy would be detectable on a repeat endoscopy. What's more, I hope you can educate me about any swallowable capsule endoscope for imaging the esophagus that may be better at identifying pathology/identify it earlier than the traditional procedure. If so, what company manufactures the device with the best post clinical outcomes? And how do I find out which medical centers currently use it?

Thank you, in advance, for your assistance.

Sincerely,
Janis Leibowitz
