I Had Back Surgery, L5 Was Removed. I Was Having

I had back surgery, L5 was removed. I was having alot of back pain since my teens and started having chronic sciatica pain. He said my x-ray showed an abnormal growth at L5. Later he diagnosed me with AS. Been seeing several doctors since and some don't agree with that diagnosis because x-ray confirms this. What is x-ray suppose to show?
