I had cataract IOL replacement in both eyes 6 weeks ago. The doctor advised me that my right eye had a fiber/foreign object in it. That eye was still inflamed and I was having tearing and light sensitivity. One time, I was in pain for about 2 hours in that eye. So, the doctor agreed to remove the fiber.
Immediately after the procedure my eye became beet red, it hurt, it was tearing. My nose was running. I was very uncomfortable. I went in to see the doctor about 2 hours later. He checked my pressure and said it was ok. And, he said the redness/burning was from a "cleaning" fluid they rinsed my eye with after they removed the fiber. He didn't irrigate my eye with water or saline. He just told me to take my eye drops and return in 2 weeks.
I didn't sleep that night. I was in a lot of pain and had an ice pack on my eye. About 3 AM, the headache kicked in really bad and lasted until afternoon the next day. The next day my eye was not as red and the eye lids were puffy. It's now a week later. I am having sensitivity to light and tearing in that eye, especially in the mornings. The white part of that eye is still a little bit red...more so than my other eye. Also, my right eye is now slightly cloudy.
So, my questions are: Was it really the "cleaning" fluid? And, why did I not have that problem during the cataract procedures? And, what could be the cloudiness that I am experiencing now and is it correctable?
