I Had My #32 Wisdom Tooth Extracted 14 Hours Ago.

I had my #32 wisdom tooth extracted 14 hours ago. The pain was not a problem after the procedure. For the past 5 hours it's unbearable and throbbing. The only remedy is having very cold water at the extraction site. I have pain killers available. What is the problem? Why would it hurt this much after the procedure, but was fine after the numbing agent wore off?
