I Had My Ear Cartilage Pierced A While Ago (over

I had my ear cartilage pierced a while ago (over 6 months). I have kept the same earring in they used with the piercing. Recently it began to hurt, so today I removed the earring and now a large bump has formed on the front and back at the piercing spot. What should I do?
