I Had My Lower Molar Removed, One That Is Next

I had my lower molar removed, one that is next to a wisdom tooth, but have had severe pains..I went to my dentist and packed the socket with a brown staff that tastes like clove, the pain went away imediately but I still have the brown staff in my socket for like four days now and feeld that it is wearing off and I can start feelibg some sort of pain though not severe, what should I do, should i remove the brown staff
