I had shoulder replacement surgery on Oct. 7 along with a regional nerve block for the right shoulder. Since then I've had ongoing numbness in the hand with pins and needles sensations in the hand, part of the forearm, and elbow near the "funny bone". But in the last few days pain has escalated, mainly in the hand and elbow. The hand is now sharply sensitive to even the slightest touch, and the elbow pain has kept me from sleeping for 3 nights now. My ortho surgeon has suggested neurontin aka gabapentin. Is it effective for my symptoms? Should I be worried about side effects, especially in conjunction with other meds such as anti-inflammatories?
