I Had Swollen Chest Where The Esophagus Is And Inspite

I had swollen chest where the esophagus is and inspite of taking generic Prevacid 30 mg; I was feeling heart burn. I saw my doctor and he got a blood test - but somehow it is lost by the lab. However my doctor also prescribed PEPCID (Generic again) 40 mg. He asked me to take one (Prevacid) in the morning and one (PEPCID) in the evening. The swelling has gone down and heart burn is gone. How long do I need to take this? He has given me 60 tablets of Pepcid. do I need to continue this or can I stop?
