I Had Tonsillitis And I Was Told By My Ear

I had tonsillitis and I was told by my ear nose and throat doctor I need surgery to get them removed. They haven't been removed yet and they are not swollen or infected right now but one of them dropped and now hangs down into my throat. What is happening to it and what should I do? I lost my job so I am not insured anymore and I can't afford to make an appointment with that same doctor that saw me before.
