I Have A 33 Yr Son Son Who Is Beginning

I have a 33 yr son son who is beginning Levothyroxine tomorrow following thyroid removal yesterday. He has multiple disabilities including intellectual . He is non-verbal and does not swallow pills. I can crush the tablet with a med-grinder but am wondering what to mix it into. He does not drink water well and I know that we need to avoid dairy like pudding or ice cream. Would a small amount of applesauce be alright?
