I Have A Cold And The Gums Between My Molars

I have a cold and the gums between my molars are itchy,I jam tooth picks in between the space and it's like a good pain feeling it's more of a pleasure sensation than pain.how can I stop the itching because am afraid I'm damaging my teeth by jamming things in between the gums in my molars
