I Have A Compressed Nerve, Sciatica In Left Leg Due

I have a compressed nerve, sciatica in left leg due to a herniated disk L5/S1. I have consulted a neurosurgeon who offered a lumbar discectomy. My sciatica pain has reduced since the consult but still evident and stops me from continuing daily activities. I am in doubt, should I wait and let time heal this issue or go for surgery. I have had this for 3 months now and in 2013 I had a bulged disk L5/S1.
