I Have A Darkened Area On My Back Upper Shoulder

I have a darkened area on my back upper shoulder about 3 inches long by about 2 inches wide that itches. Something back there has been itching for about a year or so. Did not know it had darkened until a friend told me. Should I go to a dermatologist?
