I Have A Family History Of GERD. I'm A 41

I have a family history of GERD. I'm a 41 year old female and within the last two weeks, I've had a cough a sore throat, not like an allergy or a head cold kind. More like a tickle in my throat which causes me to cough and it's way worse at night. Am I finally catching up with my family legacy? I do get heartburn if I eat garlic or onions and have for about 10 years now.
