I Have A Firm Bump About The Size Of A

I have a firm bump about the size of a pea sitting on the vein that leads to my right index finger, { I can move my index finger and bump will move}. My local MD referred me to a hand Dr., but said if it didn't bother me don't worry. Today while cooking I felt something pop where my index finger meets my hand and it is now swollen, it is about an inch away from bump. Should I make a appt. with local Dr. or go see specialist? Is it possible I have some how popped a vein?
