I Have A Friend. He Was Started On A New

I have a friend. He was started on a new thyroid medication a few months back. He has been out of sorts lately. Doing and saying things that aren't in his character. He cries then becomes angry. On Monday he told his wife that he no longer wanted to be married. Since then he has yelled at both his mother in law and his father in law. When speaking with his co-workers, they have notice mood changes as well. He usually has stomach ulcer issues and has been in recovery for heroin abuse for 10 plus years. I have looked up mood changes and thyroid medications. Could this be the issue?
