I Have A Friend, He Is A Senior, Age 69,

I have a friend, he is a senior, age 69, white male, diabetic the last 20 years. He has managed his sugar levels by food intake only. I know that last doctor's visit just over 30 days ago, indicated his kidneys were partially functioning. They told him if his tests were not better in a couple of months he would have to go on dialysis and also consider insulin. He will not do insulin or dialysis! I have noticed in the last few days that he is having considerable problems holding his urine and ends up either leaking or wetting his pants. Is this a symptom of the kidney & bladder failure due to diabetes?
