I Have A Gall Ston For 38 Years With No

I have a gall ston for 38 years with no problem until a few weeks ago. Test revealed the the stone has increased in size & the gall bladder has thickened. Bloodwork revealed a slight elevation in the white cell count. Dr wants an mri to look at liver also. Is there a reason to prolong surgery for this test. I have ongoing issues in my right abdomen & can hardly eat- very bland only.
