I Have A Gap In My Teeth That I Am

I have a gap in my teeth that i am bothered about. My dentist said that i could fill the gap up or wear temporary braces. But being someone who wore permanent braces for a year and then temporary bracea for a year more, i dont think i want to wear them anymore. So i have decided to go ahead with the filling. Is it a safe and worthwhile process? My dentist told me that she would have to grind off a part of my front teeth to do the filling. Please help.
